Since its inception in 1966, the AMS has expanded its fleet and services to provide a comprehensive emergency aero-medical and rescue service to the Western Cape and Mpumalanga and health outreach programmes to the more remote communities of KwaZulu-Natal and the Northern Cape, who previously had little or no access to basic healthcare services. Flying Doctor and Health Outreach Service
Supports the existing healthcare system by taking practitioners, dentists, medical specialists and other healthcare personnel and equipment to far-flung areas - instead of the other way around.
Provides training, capacity building and transfer of medical expertise.
Provides a cost-effective cold chain delivery system for the distribution of blood, vaccines, drugs laboratory samples, etc.
Reduces number of patients being transported to and treated at the major centres.
Substantial cost savings are achieved through a reduction in transport cost and the reduced costs of treating patients in peripheral hospitals compared to referral centres.
Emergency Air Ambulance and Rescue Services
Specialises in providing aero-medical transportation for thousands of critically ill or injured patients to medical facilities in major centres.
Provides advanced life support and rescue services.
Critically ill or injured patients are delivered timeously to definitive Tertiary Care institutions, thereby improving patient outcome.
Scarce resources such as Advanced Life Support Paramedics are now available to serve the rural towns rather than spending many hours completing road transfers. |
