The Western Cape Department of Health and the AMS Cape Town base share a strong complimentary relationship that focuses firmly on the access and delivery of health services to all communities in the Western Cape.
The AMS aircraft and staff compliment the ground ambulances in responding to emergencies and ensuring that victims benefit from a world class pre- hospital emergency care system. The primary objective is to ensure that the sick and injured gain rapid access to the appropriate service through the health system to ensure the best possible patient outcome, thereby allowing us to change and save lives together. The resources are also available to the DoH in times of disasters eg: flood relief etc.
The AMS in the Western Cape plays a role in training the DoH paramedics that operate on both the ground and air ambulances, ensuring that clinical intervention is of a very high standard throughout the system. Management of both systems integrate in certain forums and continually analyze the impact of the service, maximizing the benefit to the advantage of the community at large.
The AMS and Metro EMS have shared a very healthy relationship for 42 years and will continue to work together to serve the community for many years to come.
