In Oudtshoorn, AMS, Western Cape Department of Health Metro medical emergency service and the South African Police Service (SAPS) Oudtshoorn Highway Patrol joined together in an emergency crash drill and unprepared landing zone training exercise.
The training is in line with AMS Safety Manual requiring a six monthly exercise with the Department of Health, Fire Brigade, Traffic Department and SAPS Flying Squad. The Unprepared landing zone briefing was also incorporated into the training in preparation for emergency landings at motor vehicle accidents, as these types off call-outs are substantial over the festive season.
The ongoing team work produced in and around Oudtshoorn is of a high standard due to good quality working relationships. Warrant Officer Adams expressed that the exercise was a successful team effort and that in the foreseeable future, the service will improve.
Chris Broomhead, AMS Oudtshoorn Base Supervisor expressed his gratitude, “I would like to thank Stephan Roussouw (rotor wing pilot) for his effort in arranging this training and presenting it to all concerned. Thanks must also go to the crew on the day, Graham Archibald (rotor wing pilot) and Justin Birkenstock (flight paramedic) for the roles that they played.
