AMS, in partnership with the Limpopo Department of Health and Social Development, has based their aero-medical operations from Gateway International Airport, providing an Advanced Life support aero-medical service. This service provides for the aero-medical casevac of the critically ill/ injured patients from scenes of accidents or from primary health care facilities to general tertiary health facilities.
The program is accessible to all persons within the province. The patient's illness or injuries must satisfy a strict flight criterion, which is screened and authorised by a doctor and EMS management. The advantage of aero-medical casevac is that it provides for a quick and accessible mode of ALS transport, which is not restrictive to traffic. Therefore improving the patients prognosis
