From rescuing fishermen clinging to an overturned boat in stormy seas, transferring a critically ill baby from a regional hospital to a specialised children’s ward or flying health specialists into isolated areas, the SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service is..........Changing Lives, Saving Lives!
The SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service (AMS) is a non-profit organisation with bases in Cape Town, Oudtshoorn, Durban, Richard's Bay and Kimberley that provide an air ambulance network, rural health outreach and emergency rescue service to metropolitan areas and remote rural communities.
Our air ambulance and rescue helicopters are crewed by teams of specially trained flight paramedics, rescue specialists and doctors who extricate patients from life-threatening situations and provide advanced life support at the scene or in the air.
Our fixed wing air ambulances are mainly used for inter-hospital transport of patients who benefit from the rapid transfer and specialised in-flight medical care.
Our flying doctor and health outreach services are run in conjunction with the provincial departments of health and facilitate equitable and cost-effective professional medical services to people living in remote areas in the Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
Our highly trained pilot panel has vast experience working under unusual circumstances and maintains the highest standards of safety at all times.
